Fluoride

Vitamins and Fluoride
Infant formulas and breastmilk contain almost all the necessary vitamins. The amount of Vitamin D in breastmilk is not sufficient, and the Vitamin C content depends upon the amount the mother ingests. So breastfed babies should generally get a supplement of triple vitamin drops (containing vitamins A, D, and C). Extra fluoride is not needed in any baby less than 6 months of age, regardless of whether they are formula-fed or breastfed. After 6 months of age, certain babies and children may require fluoride supplementation, but only if their primary water source has no or low fluoride content (well water, some bottled water). Well water in most of Alaska is deficient in fluoride, but the Municipality of Anchorage (at least) does add fluoride to City water.
If you have concerns about the fluoride content in your water supply, discuss this with your pediatrician at the 6 month well baby visit.
